Het begon allemaal in 1840 met de oprichting van de "weegschalenfabriek" van seca. In 1904 verhuisde het hoofdkantoor van het bedrijf naar de huidige locatie op de Hammer Steindamm in het stadsdeel Wandsbek. seca is ook vandaag nog steeds een familiebedrijf, en inmiddels in handen van de vierde generatie. De werkomgeving wordt als buitengewoon informeel getypeerd. Hier geldt het "opendeurprincipe", d.w.z. elke van de ongeveer 160 medewerkers op het hoofdkantoor in Hamburg is even belangrijk. seca hecht er sterk aan dat medewerkers onderling op een open en constructieve manier van gedachten wisselen om zo te komen tot trendsettende ontwikkelingen die nieuwe standaarden vestigen.
